Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the ‘accountable body’ for CSET. The Trustees are both the ‘directors’ for the purposes of the Companies Act and the ‘trustees’ for the purpose of the Charities Act, and they must ensure compliance with legal requirements as well as the terms of the Funding Agreement. As such, all authority in CSET is ultimately derived from the Board of Trustees.
The Academy Trust Handbook describes the three core functions of Trustees:
- ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
- overseeing and ensuring effective financial performance
CSET has up to twelve Trustees. Regular skills audits and evaluations of the effectiveness of the Board determine the skill requirements for recruiting to a Trustee vacancy. The Board usually meets six times a year. The CSET Board has five Committees, providing detailed scrutiny of Education, Environment, Finance, People, and Risk & Audit.
